Is the automatic transmission in a VR V8 (GM 308 engine)interchangeable with a VT V8 (GM 308 engine)?

Hi Taz2.

No, the VR boxes (both the 4 & 5 prefix type) have a different solenoid set-up.

Only the VS onwards boxes (6 prefix & later) will work properly with the VT ECU.

The trans itself is basically the same, it's the valve body, wiring harness
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

why would you want a VR one?
do you have a spare?

VN Calais, V8 Auto, Blown etc etc.

Air con, Electrical, Car audio Master.

Actually i asked the question backwards, but the answer still applies.
We sold a VR auto transmission to a customer to go in a VR, but he claims the transmission is faulty.
We are prepared to exchange it, but don't have a VR one in stock.

Hi Taz2.

You should have asked that question first up.

This is a common problem because the 4 prefix & 5 prefix boxes (both in VR) are NOT interchangable. The mem-cal in the ECU is different. If you swap an auto in a VR, make sure you use the mem-ca
