I remember reading a Wheels magazine in 1978 about what they did to strengthen the original VB & the main thing that they did was to put a solid bulkhead behind the rear seat (now we know why) The VN(1988) onwards had a folding ski port in the back seat f

The first series of commodore, similar to your Senator A, ran from 1978 to mid 1988, and had the fixed/solid rear bulkhead.

You can see the way a VB-VL has the rear headrests mounted in this page I did:
