A single rail is a Ford/Valiant/P76 Borg Warner 4 speed gearbox aptly named due
to the single rail that links the shifter to the rest of the box (clearly seen in this photo)

I believe the 4 speed will do the job, will sit back a bit but can't really see it being to big a problem.

Alright then if you are going to go the way of the single rail all that you will need is the box, bellhousing (yes it's different to a 3 speed one) and gear stick. All up should cost about $50 if you bide your time.

Preferably look for a Cort

Also forgot to mention that the Cortina and XD XE XF 6 cyl single rail bell housing has provision for a cable clutch whereas the XB-XC versions and all V8 ones were hydraulic.

Ok, so this is what I require and further confirmation!
1: XF ford 6 cyl single rail gearbox 4 speed would be best?
2: Bellhousing is required as 3 speed is different?
3: I require the lowest ratio in first gear to solve the problem that I have, will

1: Yes but it's only the age and gearstick that make it better.

2: Yes 3 speed has one gearbox mounting hole in a different place and the large hole in the centre is smaller than a 4 speed. To enlarge that hole on a 3 speed box would require a bi
