I have a 253 Holden engine and the camshaft and crankshaft has a some surface rust on the parts that the bearing goes on, can I just get some emery paper and remove the rusty bits or would I need to take them to an engine place.If I do need to have some work done would I need to take the block along to.

Take it to a machine shop and get them to linish it, and then measure it up. It may be fine.

Thanks I'll look up that linish word on utube to see whats done.
Whats the worst that could happen if I just use the emery paper to remove it.

Hi ues 400 wet / dry wet with keo, do it right and grid it to bring back like new.

Hi Antoni, I'll give the 400 wet&dry with kero a go first then get the new bearings to suit.
