There are a few other ways to do it (has to be a V8 box though).

1. Find a Bedford 253 - these are TH pattern.
2. Get your 253 block redrilled to TH pattern (only mid-late 1974 onwards blocks).
3. Get the gearbox housing modified to suit trimatic pattern.

How hard would it be to find one of these blocks?? Do you know how many were made??

I would have thought they would be rarer than a 186S air con head.

I've never seen one in the flesh, but they were/are around. They are really nothing special, just an xS prefixed blue 4.2 (low comp), same thing as a WB series WS prefixed engine. Only major difference was the TH pattern drilling and they also ran a 2 barrel Rochester (like a HK-HT 307) with a governer. The real oddball is the BV prefixed engine, the only place a low compression 308/5.0L was used. Obviously V being the next available engine code after R,S,T,U eg HR, QS, 11WT, QU (never been sure why the L34 engine was HZ rather than HV or HY!). This one also had the 2 barrel, on both the BS and the BV engines a 4 barrel blue intake was used with a carby adapter which included the governer.
