On the weekend I removed the sill trims off my dads HJ premier and got the shock of my life, massive rust holes on both outer sides.

I have since googled sill panels and found many available by different places.

Just wanted to know what was recommended and the experience people have had.

Is this something I can attempt myself, or is there someone in sydney recommended who does this rust repair?

I'd get someone to do it for you. No big drama, and not all that hard for someone with all the equipment. hey have rusted from the outside in so most of it will be OK. Make sure you mark where the tabs go so you can get them put back on for the moulds.

Will the sills from rare spares do the job?

And how do you put the tabs back on?

Tabs are put on by a panel beater. They use them for an easybeat (I think that is what it is called). You can also use special rivets.

Yes, that listing is very confusing. Maybe the RP102T is the longer (wagon, ute, van, Statesman) type & the 2809814 is the shorter (sedan/coupe) type.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

according to the catalogue there is 4 numbers

2816448/9 suits 1 tonne (shorter obviously)
2809813/4 sedan
2809817/8 coupe
2809815/6 wagon/statesman/pv/ute

we know the 2809813/4 is correct for sedan and we have a guy going out today to compare the rp102t and 2809813 to both a coupe and the other models, im surprised a coupe sill wasnt the same as a sedan? but we should have the correct descriptions this afternoon

The coupe will be different to the sedan where the door openings & pillars are located. It depends how 'complete' the replacement panel is. For rust repair purposes it may not need to go as far up as the door openings.

thats what i guessed it would be. an original panel goes right to the top while a replacement is just a repair section of that panel

my issue with that theory is that if its only the top b pillar section that is different why is a wagon/statesman sill the same part number as a ute?

no point theorising it though, were going to 100% certain before i muck around with it

One will just be a rust repair section, the other a whole sill.

I'd say just the folded up rust repair section.

Jim,

Do you apply the rust converter, in the sill panel area and leave it before replacing the new outer sill or does it require anything else like a por15 before sealing it up?
