Hi All,

My 308 has developed a miss and is running very rough.
I have replaced the Distributor cap, rotor button, plugs and leads leads (it is electronic dizzy) still no change.
I would have thought if the cam or lifters were faulty there would be a noise or "chuffing" sound.

Any advice welcome and appreciated.

thanks Dave

I would start with a compression test.

Dr Terry
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Does the coil have 12V to it or is it a proper HEI coil (assuming it is a HEI setup)?

Cam shaft could be worn out. Common with cars that have done lots of slow running.

I'm with WBute - the OEM cam lobes aren't too good on old motors that have been stored for a while & used - it's a common failure point.
Cheers,

Mick

Thanks to all who have provided advice.
I will run a compression test, but fear it is the camshaft.
Thanks again, Dave

Tapping noise for lifters. Chuffing sound for burnt out valve. Missing all together for cam lobe gone/ignition problem. If you pull the rocker covers off and wind it over you will soon see if there is a cam lobe gone and which ones by watching the rocker gear moving/ not moving.
