Needing to repair or fit a change over steering box and would welcome any comments and information and advice
Can the box be serviced/overhauled in the car or dose it have to be removed?
Looking at the rear spares parts available they list a repair steering box small parts kit is this the way to go ?? or alternatively would it be better just to fit a reconditioned change over complete assembly that they also list??
The problem with the steering box is a lot of free play (very sloppy) and adjustments to both the sector or the worm will not resolve this problem

If your steering box has gotten to the point where you've run out of adjustment on both adjusters, then the ball & nut assembly will be badly worn. By the time you purchase the necessary new parts & re-bush the case & then re-assemble it, it would be better to just 'bite the bullet' & buy the Rare Spares exchange box. Thank you DR Terry I was leaning towards the complete C/O unit .
Recommendations for a pitman arm puller that will not break??
Have read a few reviews and noted that some of the cheaper pullers break ?

There is a better option than RS, from memory they did advertise on that evil site, but from what i can recall they modify the internals of the box and fit far better bearings than original. You can get yours reco, that way the date stamp will still match your car. They were a few more dollars, but far better. cheers

The RS unit has a new ball nut assembly which has a slightly different ratio (15:1 instead of 16:1). That may be interpreted as being a 'modification'. "Better bearings" is another one.
