Pretty sure they did, will check. The coloured ones generally come from UC, WB etc.

HZ.. of various type models also had coloured sports steering wheels
HZ SL/E Statos being one example

Almost certain all Sandman were black, can't see any evidence that says otherwise. HZ and WB had a few other colours for vehicles that weren't Sandman and there were also some other wierdo colours in UC.

I used to get a lot of bits off those SL/E HZ Smitty put the photo for, they were good for dashes and steering wheels. Wrecked a few for the whole front and doors to put on utes and cab-chassis, about the only bit not useable was the grille, usually turfed them and replaced with HJ standard or Statesman or HX-HZ Deville. In the 90's and late 80's they and Devilles were $2000 for a whole driving car. HJ-HZ Deville pre mid 1979 were good donors as you could use the 308 and TH400, normally avoided the TH350 cars like SL/E for driveline as it was more work to fit them and they weren't as good a box for a commercial.

I think it was the WB ute and p van and 1 tonne that got the optioned up GTS dash, from the point of the trim change up grade for sure that I have seen were trim coloured.

All HQ and HJ got Sandman in the horn button I believe, HX was blank horn button without sandman and HZ was a round button that was not as flash but all were black button I believe.

No GTS dash in WB, just the optional dash. GTS was gone in the first few months of 1979. In reality there never really was a GTS dash. There was a GTS speedo for some series although that isn’t universal either as for example HQ Sandman shared the same speedo as GTS. People just associate them with GTS rather than them simply being a sports dash. Like the Rally wheels. Similar with the alloy wheels in that SL/E Statesman, those are just as much GTS wheels as they are SL/E wheels as they too were standard on HZ GTS and Sandman and optional on most other HZ and WB as well.

HJ was blank too. Only HQ had a logo.

Sports instrument facia maybe the correct term.

I only like the HT-G sports instrument facia and hate the HK one.

Love the HQ-J-X-Z and WB Sports instruments facia. they are best ever of all Holden's by far.

I hate the HJ ribbon speedo and the HK as well can't stand any ribbon speedo ever. EJ and EH I don't mind tho.

I could no care about if the speedo has 140KM/H on it to much, as it's the Gauges that I demand as a must have, a warning light do not impress me at all, I would not mind a light as well as a gauge and even a warning noise if temp or oil pressure drops or even volts, may be of benefit, much more than all the safety noises you have now in new cars that drive you up the wall.

Hell my car has 240 KM/H but speed limited to 210 KM/H so why have 240 on the bloody clock as I can't see the 2 KM/H increments to well they are so bloody small, with all the madness that the government make claiming every K over is a killer tripe. I had some woman try and run me down when I was walking down the street at nigh, I was mistaken for a dug dealer a hole up the road, went to the cops about it and they could not give a rats arse ! f ing c-nts ! but come the big authority with shit like milking people for 1 KM over get f ed. they aiding and abetting this drugged f ed c-nt up the road and everyone hates that c-nt up the road because he sells the crap out front of their home and especially that woman's home.

Yes, but it was the same instruments (barring ADR & odometer changes) as Sandman or any other U17 optioned HJ, and the same fascia as any U17 dash in earlier HJ. So when you pick one up at a swap meet you cannot say it is a GTS fascia, could be from a Sandman or LS or Belmont or most anything else.

It’s not really a GTS dash at all or it. It’s sports instrumentation that was available in any car. It was a standard dash in GTS, Sandman and later HZ SLE. Probably others like HX LE as well.
Realistically the term GTS dash is completely incorrect.

For HK plus HQ to the start of 1974 the dash in GTS was unique as only GTS got the 140mph speedo. Not even SS got it. However once Sandman was released it also got the 140mph speedo. Not sure about HT-HG, can’t recall what a Belmont, Kingswood or Premier optioned with sports dash got for speedo.

I believe all sports option instruments in HT/HG got the 140 mph speedo. The parts catalog only list 4 types of assemblies with gauges, metric & imperial, auto column shift & others.

Meaning if you ordered gauges you got the 140 mph speedo.

Makes sense. The sports dash was around for a long time in HK prior to GTS release, and there would have been a lot of HK Belmont, Kingswood and Premier with them, so I guess they’d just have kept making the 120mph sports dash. I even saw a HK van once with 186S and U21 dash. Also makes sense they’d just make the one sports cluster for HT.

I think that the sports instrument facia in HK-T-G did not have a sports steering wheel, same with the HQ as well I think.
You could opt a sports instrument facia in a HD-R as well.
The HB Torana had the option as well I believe.
HT-G Brougham could have sports instruments as well but no sports steering wheel I believe.

AFAIK the "sports steering wheel" was not an option in any Holden of that era.

I've seen plenty dealer fitted but that is not a factory option.

Just a random question;
Does anyone know if the (early) 5mm spoke "sports" steering wheels, & the (later) 3mm wheels were manufactured any different to each other?
I have a few broken 5mm ones, but all the 3mm ones I have seem OK.

I presume there would be no repairing for these, for safety reasons.
I have seen a few modified & cut down with a smaller diameter outer rim over the years.

HQ and HJ Sandman had "GTS sports steering wheel",(ref:HQ & HJ Sandman sales brochure), (2)HQ sandman never had a 140 mph speedo, they had a 220kph speedo, (3)HQ Sandman had "Full GTS sports instrumentation"(ref:HQ Holden Sandman sales brochure),(4)HQ Sandman had "GTS sports wheels" (ref:HQ Holden Sandman sales brochure),so if it walks like a duck and looks like a duck, it's a duck, and it's politically correct to call them "GTS" wheels and "GTS" steering wheel, that is even if they are on a HZ Kindswood SL.
