Hi all

Looking for a steering column for my 10/74 HJ Col auto 253 1 Tonner (mine presently has later column with ind, dip, wipers on stalk & want to go back to original)

What are the difference between a HQ & HJ column please

IS there a source of replacement / recond columns anywhere ?

Thanks in advance

You can use a HX-HZ column, even WB. You just have to replace the part with the keys switch in it with a HQ or HJ one.

Or you can use a HQ column, just replace the plastic piece that matches the dash with a HJ-WB one to suit the column (as in to suit if its column shift or floor/console shift).

You'll need a floor high beam switch and find the harness piece to plug it into. If it s a HJ body it should have the holes to attach the switch to.

Best bet is leave the column that is there now if its OK and just replace the top cast alloy bit.

Or buy a whole column if yours is shagged, like this:

You'll need the indicator mech and an indicator stalk too. Plus maybe a key barrel depending upon what type is on the later column you have.
