I've got a '78 HZ sedan and every time I go to the service station to fill the tank I get a gush of fuel coming out the filler neck, before the tank is full. I'm thinking the breather is blocked or something. Can I pull the breather hose from the charcoal cannister and blow compressed air back towards the tank? Or do I need to drop the tank and have a look?
Thanks in advance

I have the same with my hq sedan if I hold the filler full throttle. I find I need to hold it 2 thirds on to avoid the gush issue

It's odd you are having the issue, as fuel pumps today are so slow compared to what they were like in the 70's and 80's. Are all the breather pipes setup right? |

I assumed it was caused by the relatively horizontal alignment of the fill pipe

I agree, but they were fine in the 70’s and 90’s, I had HQ to HZ sedans and an LX as daily drivers for near 20 years. Unless modern fuel pumps work differently to back then, it must be a breather issue? |

I have trouble filling my WB Ute too. Have to trickle fill the last 10 litres. I assumed it was a breather issue.

I'll have a look at the breather at see if it's blocked somewhere.
