Long time since i've been on this forum but it's the place to go for the best technical knowledge. Years back i was supplied (through here) a tech schematic of a chassis which if i recall was HZ but for most parts should be applicable to HQ. Only major differences would be upper control arms mounts, rear sway bar and the front rail re-inforcement, right?
Basically i'd like to be able to check a chassis i have for straightness and also see if anyone knows an accurate measurement for repositioning a chassis back on the body.
Measuring now is almost pointless; 40 years on and i highly doubt it's where it started!

HQ factory shop manual (body & sheet metal), has all the info you need, except it's in inches, but easy enough to convert. |

Ah yes, that sounds familiar. Trawled the computer but couldn't find it. All good though as i've been reliably informed that the swap, these days, is not worth the effort. Coming from a guy that helped develop RTS at Holden! So i'll just refurb the whole front end, add a rear sway bar and get it all setup well. |

interested to hear more about this??? RTS was a big handling improvement

Pretty basic mate. Back then you went from non-radial (bias/cross ply?) tyres and boat-like handling to radial tyres, slightly improved front steering geometry, better spring/shock rates and a rear sway bar. Not hard to see how it made a big improvement! I think there were tweaks to drag link and steering arms as well. Now, we all have new, modern parts in our cars (most of which are universal HQ-HZ), advanced setups, stiff yet compliant bushes etc. So with new parts, setup work and the addition of a rear sway bar the HQ will handle as well as any Kingswood will need to. Upper control arm mounts moved to make the car's geometry a lot better, this is the big change in RTS. There is lots more though. |
