Does it have its original steering arms? Is the turning circle terrible? |

I had a HQ Prem with power steering that was light, could steer with 1 finger, I didnt mind it actually.
Maybe check youre tyre pressures, they might too high, are they stock width or wider?

You only have to be in front at the end of the race. |

Try pulling the belt off the power steering pump. That works well ........

Another possibility is wheel alignment. HZs with power steer ran 3 deg of positive caster. If you've got negative castor, that will lighten the steerin.

Attn camry drivers. The accelerator is the skinny pedal on the right. |

It's more than likely a worn spool valve in the box.
The 'feel' of the steering is governed by the torsion rod in the valve. It is secured by a pin, which if worn (or if its holes are worn) will lighten the steering considerably.
If the wheel alignment & tyre pressure check out, then you probably just need an exchange box.

My HJ Statesman has really light steering too, even with 8 inch Hotwires and half flat tyres.
