Is it on a Holden or a Camaro? On a Holden they use a normal Holden style attachment to the axle tube just like a banjo, but a Camaro will have a C-clip that needs the rear plate removed to free up the axle. |

It's on a Holden' I just wasn't sure if I had to take the cover plate off and undo something in there. Do I have to take it off to pull the axel out

Jack & chassis stand Wheel off Drum off 4 x 9/16 nuts & spring washers off the retainer plate Hammer, slide hammer what ever you need
I have an old axle cut to about 300mm with the studs knocked out. Put it on one wheel stud, with wheel nut on loose, grab cut shaft of axle (with left hand) & belt the flange below where it's bolted to your axle, usually 2 hits does it

I find it easy to put drum on backwards and nuts on loose with flat end towards drum. Works great as a slide hammer.

I find that the full range of GMH workshop manuals works fine every time. And specifically VK Wagon with EFI & Axle M39313 June, 1985 Fading Gray to White there may be earlier Axle manuals. Edited by user Thursday, 19 May 2022 11:15:33 AM(UTC)
