Hi All.
I am wondering if the rocker arm pivot bolts in a 304 should be loctite'd in.
If not, what stops them from backing off ? There are no spring washers.

Also, torque spec is 24-32 Nm. Seems like a big range. Would it be best to just shoot for the middle (i.e. 28Nm) ?

Rgds,
Andrew.

As per GMH service manuals just install them and torque them up to spec.
The rocker pivot bolt torque specs for Red & Blue 253 and 308 engines is 30nm - 38nm.

I always err towards the higher end of the torque spec range.

I've never seen one work loose. I have however seen them broken.

Don't over-tighten them, they are only 5/16 UNC, easy to break.

ps.. don't forget the rocker arm pivots only go on one way too
(don't get this wrong, if you do they 'die' rather quickly)
